Other than the 8-bit T-Rex indicating the lack of Internet connectivity, what’s there to dislike about dinosaurs? This extinct reptile may have gone extinct about 65 million years ago, but till this day, it remains as one of the most talked about creatures to ever roamed the Earth. One instance is Jurassic Park (1993), a masterpiece by director Steven Spielberg which brought the dinosaurs back to life through the silver screen. Based on the novel by the late author Michael Crichton, Jurassic Park tells the story of a wealthy entrepreneur John Hammond (played by Richard Attenborough) who built a biological preserve on a fictional island of Isla Nublar for dinosaurs brought back from extinction by geneticists. All hell breaks loose when a sabotage to the dinosaur theme park set the animals free on the island, putting the lives of a group of visitors at stake.

Since the success of the first movie, Jurassic Park became one of the highest-grossing franchises and film series, leading to the release of several other sequels. With the release of its fourth sequel in 2015, the franchise has also been referred to as Jurassic World.

Over a decade after the incident in Jurassic Park, the park was reopened and renamed as Jurassic World. The theme park was thriving until a decision was made to boost the number of guests by creating the Indominus Rex, a hybrid dinosaur genetically created from multiple dinosaur genes.

As expected, things got out of hand when the Indominus Rex escaped its paddock and wreak havoc across the theme park.

In the latest instalment, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018), the remains of the park were left to be consumed by nature as the dinosaurs roamed freely until the island’s volcano imminent eruption threatens to wipe them out, once again putting them on the brink of extinction. A team is sent into the island to rescue the dinosaurs only to realize that the entire operation has a hidden agenda. When the rescued dinosaurs are brought back to the mainland and set free, mankind enters the beginning of a Neo-Jurassic era.

Universal Pictures released an online short film titled ‘Battle at Big Rock’ which takes place one year after the events of the movie, showing a world where both human and dinosaurs coexist. You can watch the short film here:
